INTERCultural exchange of knowledge for a good living of all beings

Since 2014, the MinkaLab Festivals have created spaces for intercultural learning, collective experimentation, and territorial exchange in the mountains of Risaralda, Colombia.

More than cultural events, these gatherings have functioned as temporary Living Labs where artists, farmers, Indigenous communities, researchers, educators, designers, activists, and local organizations come together to share knowledge, develop collaborative projects, and explore regenerative ways of living.

Over the years, the festivals have addressed themes such as:

  • Agroecology and food sovereignty
  • Alternative education and living pedagogies
  • Biodiversity and ecological regeneration
  • Art, culture, and territory
  • Community wellbeing
  • Native seeds and ancestral knowledge
  • Sustainable materials and bioconstruction
  • Intercultural dialogue and collective learning

Through workshops, talks, artistic interventions, collective building projects, ceremonies, field experiences, and community gatherings, participants engage in practical and collaborative processes that connect culture, ecology, and territory.

The MinkaLab Festivals have played an important role in the evolution of MinkaLab as a Biocultural Center and Rural Living Lab. Many of the networks, collaborations, educational initiatives, and community projects that continue today emerged from these encounters.

We understand the festivals as part of an ongoing process of learning, experimentation, and regeneration, where people, nature, culture, and community remain in constant dialogue.
