🦜 Birdwatching Tour at MinkaLab Natural Reserve
Just 10 minutes from Santa Rosa, this birdwatching experience takes place in a regenerated territory that was once affected by deforestation and is now protected as a natural reserve. Through
restoration and conservation, many bird species have returned to the forest, making MinkaLab a special place for observing the biodiversity of the region.
During this approximately 3-hour tour, we will explore different ecosystems within the reserve while observing some of the most remarkable birds of the Coffee Cultural Landscape. Among them are
local conservation symbols such as several species of parrots, colorful tanagers like the Golden Tanager, abundant hummingbirds, toucans, woodpeckers, herons, birds of prey, and species such as
the Carriquí and Squirrel Cuckoo moving through the forest.
The experience is bilingual and includes a hot drink and organic coffee produced on the farm itself.
Value: 80,000 COP per person.
History
We have been a coffee growing family for more than 40 years.
In the past we sold only green coffee directly to the cooperatives. We had not been lucky enough to taste our coffee until 10 years ago. Since then we fell in love with our own production, with
food sovereignty under good practices.
Today we have transformed a monoculture coffee plantation without shade into a forest full of trees and life.
We have also improved the production process giving a rate of over 86 points. A certified agroecological coffee.
Today we are an example that it is possible to produce coffee in controlled shade, that the agroecological model is possible and more profitable.
